Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Raspberry Charm’ doesn’t wait politely at the garden’s edge—it steps forward first. Early to flower and tall by nature, it makes its presence known with rich, raspberry-red petals gathered in a semi-double form that’s both open and theatrical. A golden centre flickers at the heart of each bloom, catching the morning sun like a flame behind silk. With no side buds and very high productivity, this hybrid delivers maximum colour per stem. Since its introduction in 1985, it’s been quietly outperforming expectations—one upright stem at a time.

Origin Raspberry Charm Peony

‘Raspberry Charm’ was bred during a time when early-season hybrids were reshaping what growers could expect from peonies. Combining herbaceous speed with tree-peony stamina, this cultivar offers the best of both worlds: structure without stiffness, colour without compromise. It opens the season with strength and closes each harvest row with a sense of intention. This is not a flower that needs a second chance—it gets it right the first time.

HYBRID

As a true hybrid, ‘Raspberry Charm’ benefits from improved durability, fewer disease concerns, and stems that stand tall even in unpredictable weather. The single bloom per stem concentrates energy and shape, making it ideal for high-output cutting fields where uniformity is key. Its rhythm suits commercial growers: fast to establish, fast to flower, and rarely needing correction.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Raspberry Charm peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
