Characteristics

Paeonia Fringed Ivory is a late-season lactiflora peony distinguished by its refined double blooms in ivory white — sometimes with a softly feathered edge that lends the variety its name. With high productivity and the presence of side buds, it delivers not just quantity, but uniformity: a reliable performer for both open-field production and professional cut flower cultivation. Stems are of standard length, making handling and post-harvest processing efficient. Introduced in 1989, Fringed Ivory has earned its place as a mainstay among growers who value both ornamental elegance and commercial consistency.

Origin Fringed Ivory Peony

As part of the Paeonia lactiflora group — a lineage native to East Asia — Fringed Ivory inherits a tradition of resilience and refined floral architecture. These peonies have been cultivated in Chinese gardens for centuries and were later embraced across Europe for their structured growth, repeat performance, and suitability to temperate climates.

LACTIFLORA
The lactiflora type is known for its robust root structure, fragrant flowering habit, and ease of propagation. In contrast to more volatile hybrids, lactifloras deliver seasonal regularity — a valued trait in both ornamental horticulture and commercial cut flower production. Fringed Ivory exemplifies this type’s strengths: formality in bloom, field vigor, and a dependable flush of flowers even under variable conditions.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Fringed Ivory peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
