How many peony bulbs per pot?
- 23 October 2023
Peonies are known for their large, fragrant blooms. They are one of the most popular flowers. When planting peonies, it’s important to know how many bulbs should be planted per pot to ensure the best chance of growing them successfully. We would like to provide you with more information!
The ideal number of peony bulbs per pot
The ideal number of peony bulbs per pot is difficult to determine, but there are some guidelines that can help to determine the best number of bulbs per pot. These guidelines are:
- The size of the pot
- Variety of peony
- The size of the bulbs
- Space between the peonies
We will explain these guidelines below.
The size of the pot
First, the size of the pot is significant. A pot that is 12-14 inches wide is ideal for planting peony bulbs. The depth of the pot should be at least 8-10 inches deep.
Variety of peony
Second, consider the variety of peony you are planting. A single bulb of a larger variety can be planted in a 12-14 inch pot. For a smaller peony variety, you may want to plant two or three bulbs in the same size pot.
The size of the bulbs
The size of the bulbs is also important. When you are planting larger bulbs, it’s best to only plant one per pot. If you plant smaller bulbs, you can fit two or three in the same size pot.
Space between peonies
Finally, you should consider how much space you want to leave for the roots to grow. Peony bulbs do best when they have 6-8 inches of space between them.
