How do I prune a peony?

Flowers can be harvested from the peony plant in the spring if desired. It is important to not cut the plant completely bare. Always leave 2 or 3 stems on the plant, so the plant retains enough energy to produce flowers again in the following year. When in the fall the stems have completely died and are brown, the plant can be pruned completely bare.
