Characteristics

The flower is a single form—simple, yes, but never plain. There’s a quiet pride in its structure: no side buds, no fuss, just one perfect bloom at the tip. It blooms very early, catching spring while others are still asleep, and offers growers the thrill of that first flush. Its form is elegant, the stems sturdy, and its presence subtle but unforgettable. In a field or garden, it’s the kind of peony that doesn’t need to be the biggest to be the one you remember.

Origin Tranquil Dove Peony

Bred in 1993, ‘Tranquil Dove’ is the kind of hybrid that understands restraint. Where others bloom big and late, this one arrives like a secret. The tone is light pink—gentle, almost washed with morning light—and the flower shape is unmistakably refined. It’s a cultivated variety, but it feels wild in its simplicity, like something stumbled upon rather than bred.

HYBRID

As a hybrid, ‘Tranquil Dove’ inherits resilience and early ambition. It’s less prone to droop, more likely to surprise. The stems are reliable, the growth habit disciplined. And the flower, though simple, holds its own among more crowded varieties. This is hybrid work at its most graceful.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Tranquil Dove peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
