Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Scrumdidleumptious’ doesn’t just bloom—it beams. Its pastel-pink petals unfold in wide, double layers with a sunset-washed glow: peach, blush and cream blended together like soft brushstrokes. Midseason flowering and upright growth make this intersectional both practical and poetic. No side buds, no excess—just one generous, shapely bloom per stem. There’s nothing flimsy here: the name may play, but the flower performs. Since 2002, ‘Scrumdidleumptious’ has stood out not just for its colour, but for its discipline.

Origin Scrumdidleumptious Peony

Bred for a new century but with old-world elegance in mind, ‘Scrumdidleumptious’ emerged at a time when growers were asking for softness with structure. It answered—with substance. Drawing from intersectional breeding lines, it offers the resilience of herbaceous roots with the flowering form of tree peonies. The result? A bloom that feels both airy and assured. It brightens the midseason window with a palette that catches light—and keeps it.

INTERSECTIONAL

As a true intersectional, ‘Scrumdidleumptious’ holds its shape, delivers predictable timing, and grows without drama. The foliage stays clean, the stems stay upright, and the bloom—just one per stem—unfolds with intent. No staking, no fuss, and a visual rhythm that complements both tight rows and loose designs. It’s a variety that doesn’t chase attention but still gets it.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Scrumdidleumptious peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
