Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Rozella’ doesn’t push for attention—it earns it quietly, with form, depth and late-season reliability. Its double blooms come in rich pink, their petals soft-edged but assertive, layered like folds of silk caught mid-turn. There’s movement in the way Rozella opens—never hurried, always composed. With side buds ensuring a generous bloom cycle and stems that stay clean and upright, this lactiflora brings structure without stiffness. Introduced in 1990, it remains a steady performer in the Deluxe segment: not loud, just lasting.

Origin Rozella Peony

Rozella arrived at a time when breeding favoured dependable elegance—blooms that held their shape, stems that behaved, colour that didn’t fade. This cultivar comes from that tradition: stable, steady, and shaped by field performance. As a late bloomer, it fills the calendar when earlier varieties bow out, extending the harvest window without compromising on form or freshness. Its character lies in the details—slightly curved outer petals, a centre that glows in evening light, and a flowering rhythm growers can trust.

LACTIFLORA

Like all solid lactifloras, Rozella balances beauty and discipline. Its upright habit keeps it tidy in rows and beds alike. The presence of side buds extends production without overwhelming the plant’s rhythm, allowing for a consistent stem structure and staggered cuts. Whether grown for floristry, retail, or open-ground display, Rozella slots in with quiet certainty—and finishes the season on a high note.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Rozella peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
