Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Pink Ardour’ doesn’t just bloom—it blazes. Its single, vivid pink petals fan out around a fiery gold centre, giving each bloom the look of a living flame caught in motion. No side buds, no distractions—just one bold statement per stem. It flowers midseason with composure, offering a steady rhythm and structure in the field. With a moderate productivity rate and a well-balanced plant height, ‘Pink Ardour’ has earned its place among the intersectionals since its 1995 debut. A variety that trades excess for clarity—and still manages to leave an impression.

Origin Pink Ardour Peony

As an Itoh peony, ‘Pink Ardour’ comes from a lineage bred for resilience and precision. These intersectionals, born of herbaceous and tree peony parentage, are built to thrive with minimal intervention. Where traditional varieties sprawl or collapse under weight, intersectionals stand upright—no staking, no struggle. ‘Pink Ardour’ channels this lineage with its clean form and rich colour saturation. It performs with composure, no matter the setting: garden design, production field, or landscape feature.

INTERSECTIONAL

In the world of peonies, intersectionals are the quiet revolution—and ‘Pink Ardour’ is among their most articulate voices. It offers a short-to-medium height profile, upright stems, and a dependable flowering window. Its single blooms make it ideal for modern arrangements or growers seeking contrast within a fuller assortment. Fewer buds mean more energy per flower, and in the case of ‘Pink Ardour’, that energy is pure colour.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Pink Ardour peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
