Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Margereth Delight’ brings quiet luxury to the mid-season field — a rounded, fully double bloom in creamy white with soft blush undertones at its heart. Its layered petals open in steady formation, creating a generous yet tidy shape that sits well on its stem. This variety offers high productivity with side buds, making it ideal for growers who want dependable volume without compromising on quality. Stem length is moderate but sufficient for grading across multiple market segments. It’s a peony that doesn’t shout — but speaks of refinement from the first bloom.

Origin MARGERETH DELIGHT Peony

Released in 2019, ‘Margereth Delight’ was introduced to offer growers a cleaner, more reliable alternative within the white lactiflora segment. While many older whites tend toward irregular bloom or browning in storage, this variety holds its form and colour with confidence. It fits effortlessly into mid-season harvests, with flowers that open gradually and hold longer in the field. Whether for local sales or export-ready programmes, it presents consistency in both bloom and stem quality. The delight lies in its balance: full, clean, and easy to work with.

LACTIFLORA

As a lactiflora, ‘Margereth Delight’ delivers reliability in both growth and post-harvest. The plant matures steadily, with side buds that offer a staggered bloom rhythm — an advantage when aiming for extended cutting periods or varied stage bunches. At grading tables, the bloom keeps its structure even under chilled conditions, making it a favourite among growers who manage cooled inventory. It’s a field-to-cooler performer that rarely needs correcting.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Margereth Delight peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
