CHARACTERISTICS

Paeonia ‘Lavender Pastel’ offers a soft presence with structured complexity. This Lactiflora cultivar produces double blooms in delicate pastel pink, often touched with undertones of ivory and blush. The petals, gently cupped and loosely arranged, create a bloom that reads as both romantic and composed. Flowering late in the season and without side buds, ‘Lavender Pastel’ channels all its growth energy into singular, well-defined blossoms. Its pastel coloration adds tonal diversity to the late-season spectrum, while its medium height and reliable form make it suitable for scaled production or refined landscape compositions.

ORIGIN LAVENDER PASTEL

While the exact year of introduction remains undocumented, ‘Lavender Pastel’ fits comfortably within the tradition of 20th-century Lactiflora breeding—where nuance in colour and subtlety in form became valued traits. The cultivar has been selected and maintained for its stable bloom structure and desirable tonal range, contributing to its ongoing relevance within standard assortment programs. Its name reflects both its palette and its character: understated, clear, and consistently presentable.

LACTIFLORA

Lactiflora peonies are essential to field-scale cut flower production, prized for their predictability and vegetative strength. ‘Lavender Pastel’ upholds these traits with dependable flowering, upright stems, and a moderate growth habit. Its lack of side buds streamlines the bloom cycle and simplifies harvest timing, making it a strategic choice for late-season growers focused on uniformity. In cooler climates or under filtered light, its pastel tones may appear even more luminous—adding value to its ornamental profile.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Lavender Pastel peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
