Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Joyful Love’ blooms with a soft intensity that’s hard to ignore. Its semi-double flowers open early in the season, displaying ruffled soft pink petals that surround a vivid golden heart—an interplay of delicacy and vitality. Each bloom is borne on tall, upright stems, offering excellent visibility and structural balance in the field. With no side buds and high productivity, Joyful Love is designed for precision: one strong stem, one flower, repeated across the crop. Introduced in 2019, it is part of the premium class, offering growers a visually striking yet cultivation-friendly peony with standout height and colour clarity.

Origin Joyful Love Peony

Introduced by Anderson of Swenson Gardens, Joyful Love represents the best of hybrid breeding—refined floral form, strong vegetative structure, and reliable field performance. Its lactiflora influence is evident in its bloom elegance, while its hybrid strength ensures early growth, tall uniform stems, and consistent output. Ideal for cut flower production or formal planting schemes, this cultivar meets the expectations of growers seeking both style and structure.

HYBRID

Hybrid peonies are developed to sharpen every useful trait: earlier bloom, reduced maintenance, stronger stems, and clearer form. Joyful Love embodies this ethos. Its growth is clean, its output predictable, and its resilience suited to both open field and controlled environments. For professionals, it offers a low-effort, high-impact return season after season.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Joyful Love peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
