CHARACTERISTICS

Paeonia ‘Immaculee’ is a cultivar of sculpted refinement. This Lactiflora selection produces pure white double blooms that open with measured precision, each petal softly curved yet densely arranged—resulting in a flower that feels both architectural and delicate. The bloom emerges late in the season, offering growers a high-value variety for extending production into the final window. With healthy foliage and reliable side bud development, ‘Immaculee’ supports consistent output along the stem, making it well-suited to structured crop cycles or mixed-field compositions seeking balance between colour, height and floral volume.

ORIGIN IMMACULEE PEONY

Although the exact year of introduction is not recorded, ‘Immaculee’ clearly fits within the Lactiflora tradition of robust herbaceous growth and refined floral structure. Its name—derived from the Latin immaculatus, meaning unblemished—aptly describes both the visual purity of its bloom and the cultivar’s performance in the field. Bred for reliability and ornamental restraint, it reflects the long-standing breeding focus on productivity, symmetry, and late-season resilience within the peony landscape.

LACTIFLORA

As a class, Lactiflora peonies are the most extensively cultivated for cut flower production due to their fibrous roots, adaptable growth habits, and flowering regularity. ‘Immaculee’ exemplifies these core traits. Its medium height, side bud productivity, and well-shaped flowers make it a functional choice for growers who prioritise uniformity and commercial compatibility. It blends seamlessly with other whites in the late-season portfolio or stands out alone as a cultivar that delivers clarity in both tone and structure.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Immaculee peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
