Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Hermione’ reveals itself slowly—layer by layer—in a soft pink bloom that feels almost theatrical in form. The fully double flowers, richly petalled and delicately scented, sit atop firm, upright stems that hold their elegance through wind and time. With a height of around 90 cm and a flowering window in midseason, Hermione lends both structure and scent to borders, production fields, and collector plots. Its pastel tones pair effortlessly with classic garden palettes, while the foliage remains a steady, handsome backdrop throughout the growing season.

Origin Hermione Peony

Hermione belongs to the esteemed lactiflora group—a species native to East Asia and celebrated for its floral abundance. For centuries, Paeonia lactiflora has been cultivated for ornamental and botanical purposes, serving as the foundation for countless cultivars worldwide. Its generous bloom habit and fragrance make it a cornerstone of professional peony breeding, valued for both stability and aesthetic impact.

LACTIFLORA

Lactiflora peonies stand out for their reliability, abundance, and perennial resilience. As herbaceous types, they return yearly with a well-defined cycle and minimal intervention—offering consistency in both yield and quality. Hermione exemplifies this with its poised stature and productivity, making it a logical fit for commercial growers, landscape designers, and private enthusiasts seeking dependable elegance.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Hermione peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
