Characteristics

Paeonia ‘Heavenly Masterpiece’ earns its name with blossoms that seem painted by hand — soft pink, semi-double blooms with a texture so refined they appear to float above the foliage. This hybrid, introduced in 2017 by Anderson/Swenson, grows to a commanding 90 cm, offering both structure and charm early in the midseason. Multiple side buds per stem ensure prolonged flowering and consistent productivity. Its sturdy habit and reliable output make it highly suitable for professional cut-flower cultivation and perennial landscaping alike.

Origin Heavenly Masterpiece Peony

‘Heavenly Masterpiece’ stands within a long tradition of hybrid peonies — a lineage born from precise cross-pollination between peony species to capture the best of each. Bred in the United States, this variety is a direct outcome of intentional hybridisation: it combines botanical finesse with agricultural resilience. With its soft colour palette and structural performance, it balances elegance with utility in a way few hybrids manage.

HYBRID
Hybrid peonies are engineered through decades of careful breeding, a craft refined from imperial gardens in China to modern horticultural labs in Europe and America. Their role in contemporary cultivation goes far beyond aesthetics — offering stronger stems, greater disease resistance, and more distinctive forms. ‘Heavenly Masterpiece’ continues that trajectory, shaped as much by tradition as by botanical precision.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Heavenly Masterpiece peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
