CHARACTERISTICS

Paeonia ‘Cheryl Ann’ commands a confident elegance. This tall hybrid cultivar displays double blooms in saturated shades of clear pink, composed with structural depth and botanical precision. Each flower forms a dense, symmetrical dome, held upright by firm stems and framed by vigorous green foliage. Introduced for mid-season flowering, ‘Cheryl Ann’ delivers consistent bloom performance with a focus on floral form—side buds are absent, allowing all energy to consolidate into a singular, fully developed flower per stem. The result is a varietal that satisfies both commercial growers and collectors seeking refinement and reliability in their peony fields.

ORIGIN CHERYL ANN PEONY

Brought into cultivation in 2006, ‘Cheryl Ann’ represents the strength and selectivity of modern hybrid peony breeding. Drawing from diverse genetic sources, hybrid peonies were developed to enhance stem integrity, flower morphology, and overall resilience in production environments. ‘Cheryl Ann’ upholds these expectations—its structural clarity, balanced colour tone, and disciplined growth habit affirm its standing in the premium category. With solid garden performance and florist-grade characteristics, it is a dependable choice for growers aiming at uniformity and standout floral appeal in the mid-season window.

HYBRID

Hybrid peonies are bred from intentional crossings between different peony species, selected for the integration of strength, visual appeal, and environmental adaptability. Unlike more traditional types, hybrids often feature a single terminal bud with refined floral geometry and upright carriage. In the case of ‘Cheryl Ann’, this results in tall, uniform stems bearing bold, double blossoms—ideal for mechanised harvesting or structured landscape settings. Rooted in decades of specialist cultivation, hybrids such as this one continue to meet the demands of today’s cut flower markets with performance-based precision.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Cheryl Ann peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw
