Characteristics

Paeonia Hybrid Cheddar Cheese makes a confident statement in any field or garden, with blooms that echo the richness of its namesake. Each semi-double to double flower opens in a buttery yellow tone with a paler, cream-filled heart — a layered palette that seems to glow under early summer light. With strong, upright stems reaching around 90 cm, this cultivar is as structurally sound as it is visually arresting. Ideal for commercial cut flower production, Cheddar Cheese also excels in borders, bringing both volume and warmth to the planting scheme.

Origin Cheddar Cheese Peony

The story of Cheddar Cheese is rooted in the art of hybridisation — the deliberate fusion of peony bloodlines to achieve a plant that delivers in both form and performance. Hybrid peonies, such as this cultivar, are known for their enhanced hardiness and ornamental value, often combining the showy grandeur of tree peonies with the perennial reliability of herbaceous types. This particular hybrid is appreciated not just for its bloom form, but for its field behaviour: upright stems, robust growth, and flower uniformity that meets the expectations of professional growers.

HYBRID

Hybrid peonies were developed through selective crossbreeding, driven by centuries of cultivation across Europe and Asia. Breeders sought to refine floral symmetry, stem stability, and disease resistance — qualities all present in Cheddar Cheese. It stands as a modern cultivar designed with commercial logic and botanical elegance in mind. Its flowering window, dependable habit, and exceptional vase performance make it a choice variety for those seeking professional-grade results.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Cheddar Cheese peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
