Characteristics

Paeonia hybrid ‘Bully Buck’ doesn’t ask for attention—it takes it. With large, raspberry-toned blooms that sit somewhere between semi-double and full, each flower feels like a declaration. The petals are thick, slightly tousled, and packed with presence—less decorative, more demonstrative. Rising to 85 cm on broad, self-supporting stems, this early-season bloomer commands the landscape and the bouquet bench alike. It’s a cultivar built for growers who want impact without compromise.

Origin Bully Buck Peony

Born from recent hybridisation lines focused on strength and early performance, ‘Bully Buck’ reflects a shift in modern breeding—from beauty alone to bold, multi-functional plants. Though its exact lineage is closely held, its character shows the influence of sturdy herbaceous ancestors known for quick rooting, upright habit, and flowering discipline. It’s a variety for professionals looking to pair ornamental strength with agronomic ease.

HYBRID

Hybrid peonies like ‘Bully Buck’ don’t just bloom—they execute. Developed to deliver on hardiness, stem integrity, and reliable earliness, this type excels where traditional lactiflora falters. Its solid architecture holds up well in open field cultivation, while its saturated colour offers a break from softer palettes. Whether destined for large-scale cut production or used to punctuate planting schemes, it thrives with minimal intervention and maximum return.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Bully Buck peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
