Characteristics

Paeonia lactiflora ‘Bright White’ doesn’t simply bloom—it clarifies. With fully double, ivory-white petals arranged in symmetrical precision, each flower seems to radiate stillness and structure. The effect is both cooling and luminous, like early sunlight on polished marble. Reaching 90 cm in height, this mid-season bloomer stands tall on firm, florist-grade stems and offers clean foliage that frames each flower with quiet contrast. Highly valued for its purity, form, and dependable performance, ‘Bright White’ makes a powerful case for minimalism in motion.

Origin Bright White Peony

A modern addition to the lactiflora lineage, ‘Bright White’ stems from decades of careful selection for bloom regularity, upright growth, and colour consistency. As a member of the Paeonia lactiflora group—originally cultivated in China and perfected across Europe—it embodies the legacy of classical breeding with a distinctly contemporary clarity. Especially prized in large-scale cut flower operations and monochromatic garden schemes, this cultivar delivers aesthetic precision with agronomic strength.

LACTIFLORA

The lactiflora peony is the architectural pillar of herbaceous peony cultivation—valued for its longevity, floral abundance, and environmental resilience. ‘Bright White’ honours that lineage while standing apart through its unique chromatic restraint. With excellent post-harvest durability and predictable bloom behaviour, it’s ideal for high-output fields and structured garden design where clean colour and bloom discipline are essential.

How to plant

What follows are the steps for planting Bright White peony roots:
Peonies flourish in locations with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. Choose a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day and has organic-rich soil. Create a hole that is 30 cm (12 inches) broad and 10 cm (4 inches) deep. To boost soil fertility, loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole with a garden fork or spade and mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Remove any stones or trash and break up any clumps. Insert the peony root into the hole so that the eyes (or growth buds) face up and are no more than 5 cm (2 inches) below the soil surface. Backfill the hole with dirt, gently firming it down to remove any air pockets. Thoroughly water the newly planted peony root to help settle the dirt around the roots. Soak the soil around the plant using a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash it away. Mulch the plant’s base with a 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inch) layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw.
